Alex Ely founded Mæ in 2001, developing it into a Stirling Prize-winning architecture practice renowned for sustainable and socially responsive design. Under his leadership, the studio has delivered internationally acclaimed masterplans, housing schemes, healthcare facilities and cultural buildings that seamlessly integrate environmental responsibility with social purpose and design excellence.

As a key figure shaping UK housing policy, Alex authored the influential Mayor of London's Housing Design Guide and numerous best-practice publications. His expertise in urban strategy and design quality has redefined national standards, advancing architectural approaches to creating more inclusive, sustainable communities.

Alex bridges professional practice with public service as Chair of the Museum of the Home (appointed by the Secretary of State for DCMS) and through his role on the RIBA Housing & Planning Expert Advisory Group. Formerly a Mayor's Design Advocate and Design Council CABE Expert, he remains a prominent voice at international design forums, championing architecture's role in addressing contemporary urban challenges.
