RIBA London Awards 2024 Keynote Practice News

Mæ Director Alex Ely will be this year's keynote speaker at the RIBA London Awards. The event will celebrate the most sustainable, original and inclusive buildings enriching our communities in London. The London Awards will take place on Friday, 10th May, from 6.30pm until 11 pm at RIBA HQ, 66 Portland Place, W1B 1NR.

The evening will celebrate the 76 projects shortlisted for the regional awards and reveal the winners during the evening. The audience will consist of approximately 250 guests, including representatives of the 76 shortlisted practices, their guests, RIBA Awards Judges, RIBA London Group chairs, and other stakeholders.

Daventry House, designed for Westminster City Council, has been shortlisted for a Housing Design Award 2024.

The Housing Design Award are the only awards that join the major built environment professions – RICS, RIBA and RTPI – with DLUHC, GLA, Homes England and major stakeholders, such as NHBC, in finding the best new places to live.

The Awards were launched by Nye Bevan in 1948, in the same sitting of Parliament as the NHS, to identify the best ideas among councils’ post-war rebuild. The awards were subsequently opened up to market sale homes in 1960 by Harold Macmillan.

Studio International interview Practice News

Founder Director Alex Ely has been interviewed for Studio International magazine.

Studio was first published in April 1893 under the title The Studio: An Illustrated Magazine of Fine and Applied Art. It rapidly established itself as one of the most successful fine art periodicals in the English-speaking world.

Among others, it featured the work of the illustrator Aubrey Beardsley and the architects Charles Rennie Mackintosh and CFA Voysey.

In the interview with Veronica Simpson, Alex explores the secret to making buildings that other architects admire and envy, but which are dedicated to the greater good.
