Places for Strangers

Places for Strangers

Date: 2014

Places for Strangers, published by Park Books, illustrates a set of principles and attitudes, which are continually negotiated in Mæ’s work.

Polemic essays are complemented by a conversation with Shumi Bose, reflecting on our project portfolio since 2001. These formal and conversational components are juxtaposed by a photo essay by David Grandorge, which traces the latent occupancy and human actions on both current and completed projects.

Places for Strangers is a contemporary examination of the architects’ predicament: a candid insight into the possibility of aligning ideological principles with the prosaic realities of design practice, where the occupant of a building or place is unknown.
