We have designed this affordable housing project in New Islington, phase 3 of the Manchester Millennium Community project. The homes are intended to be a joyous and constructive response to the requirements of the brief and the area.
Christened ‘The Guts’ by residents, owing to the site’s central position in the New Islington masterplan, we have provided 18 affordable homes for residents of the former Cardroom Estate.
Addressing the need for large family homes we have created a series of distinct semi-detached dwellings, linked at the back rather than their sides. Each house follows the archetype of a ”home”, with its large pitched-roof and generous porch.
Architecturally they are unified with one colour of brick at ground floor and individual colours for each home on top. They are designed to generous space standards, with a private garden and on-plot parking. The project was realised to a tight budget and construction programme.
