The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design will be a new institution in central Olso celebrating the visual arts in Norway. It acts a destination and meeting place enriched with heritage and culture.
Our design aims to create an enjoyable experience for visitors whilst responding to the opportunities of dealing with a complex site topography and building function.
The design of museum respects the scale of the retained station buildings and nearby civic buildings. A colonnade marks the entrance. Above the colonnade are two towers, which relate to the scale of the city and look out towards Akershus Festning, Radhus and the fjord.
A new public square will be used for sculpture, exhibition and performances. Inside a majestic side-lit stair leads to the galleries and sculpture terrace in the heart of the site. Visitor and curatorial needs are catered for by a clearly linked sequence of generously scaled spaces.
